We stayed at Chalet Avenir around mid-July for my 30th birthday and to watch the Tour de France on its penultimate stage. Chalet Avenir has just opened its doors to guests – we were delighted to find out that we were its first!

Our experience was so positive that I wanted to let future guests know…Ian and Amy run bespoke bicycle tours and excursions from the area. Amy is also a qualified personal fitness and soon-to-be Yoga instructor. The Chalet itself is stunning. It is only 3 years old and has been kitted out to a very high standard indeed. My girlfriend and I took the super-king room, with a spotless en-suite.

We shared the Chalet with Ian, Amy and a couple of other fellow cyclists who were also visiting the area. We arrived late on our first night around 23:30, we met Amy and Ian – they had set out a beautiful supper for us, with local cured meats, cheese and gorgeous local red wine. The initial impression was overwhelming positive, and we immediately felt very at home. Our room had a super-king sized bed, large open area, en-suite and our own balcony overlooking the valley below (amazing view). The room was very quiet, clean and comfortable. The bed and mattress was very comfortable indeed and we slept well. We had given Amy an approximate breakfast time, and she had set up a lovely, healthy continental style breakfast with some UK touches. It was more than what we had expected and again highlighted the quality service that Chalet Avenir was setting out to offer.

The Chalet itself is very open plan. It has a large seated area, wood-burning stove (will be amazing in the ski season), and a huge TV that we watched the Tour de France on daily. There is a well set out decking area with large hot tub. Everything is spotless and of an excellent standard. Since we were visiting the area mainly for the cycling, I will touch on this also.

The Chalet has a large and secure garage with locking door – ideal for storing bikes and bike-boxes. Ian has a large number of cycling tools and equipment, and is more than willing to lend a hand if you get stuck rebuilding the bikes: as we did! He is also a bit of guru when it comes to navigating the local mountains and roads. We were staying for a short time, and we wanted to pack in as many mountains and scenic areas as possible. Ian took time to sit down with us and plan out the possible routes. He has 20-30 local OS maps to help with this, and his local knowledge was invaluable. Ian and Amy are also keen cyclists, and one day we were invited out on a ride with them. We took them up on this offer and it was a great way for us to get to know the local climbs.

Morzine has hundreds of sections to ski, and the chalet is in a prime spot for a winter sports base. In summary, I would definitely recommend Chalet Avenir. We had superb service, great room, perfect location and lots of local knowledge with lovely hosts. We will certainly be back for more cycling, and possibly even some skiing. We had a fantastic stay at Chalet Avenir. The set-up is very high-end, and thoroughly deserves a recommendation.
